Please, Let Me Preach

In the name of God, most Gracious, most Compassionate.
All the glory goes to Him,
Truly He is the most Benevolent.

I am here today to talk to you – akhi, ukhti,
About enjoining the good and forbidding the evil.
I may not be knowledgeable, but listen to me,
I’m just trying to save you from the devil.

I’m angry at your point of view only because
It is clearly untrue – I have been taught different!
Please, I think I deserve some applause,
Because unlike you, I’m not a liberal!

Graciously allow me to interfere in your matters,
It’s far easier instead if I do the job.
I’m just trying to make sure your faith doesn’t shatter,
Do you really want to set off a lynch mob?

Your imam is wrong, mine is right.
I know that for a fact.
Because what he says justifies my spite,
He makes sure all my beliefs stay in tact.

You’re calling me judgmental? How can that be?
I’m only defending the Sunnah!
Don’t you know that if you’re not as religious as me,
You won’t be considered a part of us?

The more I fall in love with Him, the more I realise
How completely flawed other people are.
I’m only pointing at others because I’ve become more wise,
And I’m trying to get you back to the right path.”

You can throw away your false notion of humility,
When all you’re harbouring is contempt.
Your superiority complex is radiating so strongly,
Even though you hide it behind a façade of respect.

When you talk more about what pleases you,
It becomes less about God.
Religion is no longer a tool for us to improve,
You just want people to look at you with awe.

You present fallacies and call it “tarbiah sentap”,
And discreetly tease and then say it’s “dakwah”.

Bila orang marah, you cakap mereka biadap.
Amboi, memang confirm you masuk syurga kah?*

When people are angry, you call them rude.
Wow, has Heaven been confirmed for you?

Here’s a revelation new to you:
You can be religious without being a jerk.
If you worship your ego more than you should,
Your piety probably still needs some work.
