Free Spirit

Free spirit, free spirit,
Leaving a mark in everyone you meet.
Free spirit, free spirit,
Missing you more than I’m willing to admit.

I don’t think you understand
The void you created when you left this land.
Memories, smoke, and long starless nights,
Yet for everyone, you shone so bright.

You were the calmness that lay beneath,
Yet a volcano erupting underneath.
You sought the best for everyone,
In doing so, flew too close to the sun.

You were home, you were patience and grace,
It’s been 3 years since I’ve last seen your face.
You were shelter during the darkest of days,
But right now you are oceans away.

This poem is based off an unfinished song a friend wrote dedicated to the same person in this poem.
